T’was nearly a week after New Years

And in the halls of the Senate

Our country was preparing

For a new White House tenant.

But Trump's at the podium

Repeating the BIG LIE

Fake election results

He publicly decries.

The barricades are up

The police standing guard

But the conspiracy nut jobs

Are coming in hard.

One hundred and eighty-seven minutes

President Trump just sat mute

While rioters stormed the Capitol

Election results they sought to dispute.

Was that a proud moment

For Trump supporters all

As you sat watching and hoping

That our country would fall?

Get a clue! Wear a mask!

I don’t want to get sick

And stop watching Fox News

You ignorant prick!!

I finally got my shot

I’ve been vaccinated

And if all others would follow

It won’t be mandated.

Sitting on a school board

Seemed like a nice cushy job

Except you’re constantly harassed

By an anti-vax mob.

Flight attendants are beaten

When given the task

Of asking politely

Please wear a mask.

That ship Ever Given

Became a disruption event

And grounded itself

As if in Portland cement.

They pushed and they pulled

Its freedom looked bleak

Success! It was released

After sitting nearly a week.

Who would have predicted

It wouldn’t go quite as planned

When we pulled out the troops

From war-torn Afghanistan.

That costly twenty-year war

Was now finally over

Sadly, the Taliban rushed in

And ultimately took over.

It’s said you can judge a man

By the company he keeps

As many have been indicted,

You DJT peeps.

Now Banon! Tom Barrack! Now, Broidy and Stone

On Weisselberg! On Meadows and Michael D Cohen

Go face the judge! Get up against the wall

Let’s lock ‘em up! Lock ‘em up! Lock ‘em up all!

I’ve been vaccinated, said

Big Bird of Sesame Street

“It’s government propaganda”

Ted Cruz blurted out in a tweet.

The supply chain is broken

Said many a nightly news host

As goods from overseas

Were stuck just off the coast.

I ‘Meta’ white supremacist

Through an old Facebook post

Spreading distortions and lies,

That Zuck just loves to host.

We finally made it through the pandemic

We’re on the other side

Oh Shit! What is Omicron

Please, don’t let us backslide!

Mid-December came

And brought with it a storm

Buildings were flattened

The landscape transformed.

Mayfield was gone

In the blink of an eye

As gale-force winds

Ripped through the sky.

Mr. Big made a comeback

But just like that came to a halt

As allegations were made

About sexual assault.

Gone are the famous

This year, 2021

Tho’ I didn’t make up rhymes

For every single one.

We lost Capt. Stubing

And Linc from Mod Squad

Larry Flint and Rush Limbaugh

Now that pairing is odd!

We will miss Charlie Watts

And Dusty Hill from ZZ Top

Goodbye and farewell

But your music won’t stop.

Gone is Hal Holbrook

Known best as Mark Twain

And singer B J Thomas

Made famous by Rain . . .

A salute to Bob Dole

Farewell Charles Grodin.

A final ovation to Chick Corea

And “Hammerin’ Hank Aaron

Ron Popeil sliced and diced his way

to the big Veg-O-Matic in the sky

And to broadcaster Larry King

We said a final goodbye.

So long to Phil Spector

And your Big Wall of Sound

Goodbye Michael Nesmith

No longer Monkee-ing around.

Superman shed a tear

When we lost Richard Donner

And The Sound of Music’s not the same

Without Christopher Plummer.

Stephen Sondheim passed away

Broadway stages sat in silence

We closed the book on Anne Rice

Author of vampires and violence.

A crisp salute to Colin Powell

Our first black Secretary of State

And baseball’s Tommy Lasorda,

Is at bat at the Pearly Gates

We lost Desmond Tutu

And Senator Harry Reid

Two powerful man

I think that’s agreed

And so now as I close

My wish to all of you

Be Kind and Be Safe

In the year 2022!

Happy New Year!!
